Camfil USA Manufacturing Facility

Camfil USA, a leading manufacturer of air filtration products for medical and healthcare facilities, was constructing a new manufacturing facility in Kilgore, Texas, with durability and long-term performance among its top priorities.  Located in a region prone to extreme weather, the facility required a reliable roofing system capable of withstanding harsh conditions to protect its manufacturing operations. 

D&D Roof Services installed a 420,000 sq. ft. roofing system featuring Elevate® UltraPly™ Platinum TPO, backed by a 30-year Red Shield™ Warranty. The completed roofing assembly delivered the dependable, long-term performance goals needed to meet Camfil’s project goals.

After a previous Camfil facility was damaged by severe tornadoes, resulting in costly repairs and operational disruptions, the Camfil team wanted the new facility to be built “like a bunker,” with the highest possible level of durability against the hail and high winds of Texas.

The Texas summer heat provided additional challenges during installation. Adhesive products could not be stored outdoors, and crews had to follow strict heat-safety and work-rest protocols, which slowed the project timeline. Extra adhering with a high fastening pattern also elongated the project but was crucial to deliver the level of wind uplift resistance the client desired. The facility’s remote location, with supply houses several hours away, also led to materials being delivered in four separate phases.

During the design planning process, D&D Roof Services collaborated with the architect and Lone Star representatives to recommend an all-in-one roofing and metal solution. Rather than being fabricated in the field, the coping metal was manufactured custom by Elevate and shipped directly to the jobsite, allowing the entire roofing assembly, including the roofing membrane, edge metal and compatible seam components, to be backed by a single 30-year Red Shield Warranty rather than multiple warranties from different manufacturers.

To meet the project’s demanding performance expectations, the crew installed an 80-mil  UltraPly Platinum TPO roofing assembly with an adhered ISOGARD™ HD cover board. Together, the adhered assembly, high fastening pattern and integrated edge metal system were designed to maximize durability to the highest level while protecting the facility from moisture intrusion and contamination risks.
