Cloverdale Sport and Ice Complex

Homan Roofing was awarded the Elevate Excellence Awards for the Cloverdale Sport and Ice Complex, featuring a 70,000 sq. ft. flat roof in Surrey, British Columbia. This facility serves as a vital community hub, offering flexible, multi-use spaces for athletics, cultural programming, and local events.

For the Homan Roofing team, many of whom grew up in the area, the project represented a personal commitment to their own neighbourhood. To ensure this community centre serves  residents for years to come, a high-performance, fully adhered Elevate UltraPly TPO roofing system was specified for this project. The Elevate UltraPly TPO roofing system provides a durable, weather-resistant system designed to stand up to the toughest conditions while maintaining maximum energy efficiency.

The roofing system for an ice complex presented unique technical challenges, because the ice rinks function as permanent heat sinks, the temperature of the roof structure frequently drops below the dew point of the interior air, creating a persistent risk of 'ceiling drip' that can damage both the ice quality and the building's long-term structural integrity. 

To combat the challenges related to the heat sinks, the roofing system design incorporated a high-performance vapor barrier and meticulous thermal bridge mitigation, ensuring that the roof acts as a dry, protective shield.

Homan Roofing installed a Fully Adhered Elevate UltraPly 60-mil TPO Membrane assembly that included a V-Force Vapour Barrier, dual layers of 2.5" ISOGARD GL, and 1/2" ISOGARD HD.  

Elevate UltraPly TPO proved to be the ideal solution for this project, combined with a Red Shield Warranty, the roofing system offered the durability required to stand up to the toughest conditions.
